The Challenge

Homelessness/Displacement represents a persistent, destructive societal presence and characterized by a difficult lifestyle often fraught with danger and discomfort. Statistics suggest that homelessness is escalating rapidly in scope and severity in Nigeria.

Approximately 10.2 million Nigerians in the six states that make up the country's northeast region require some kind of humanitarian or protection assistance, including 7.7 million people in the three worst affected states (Borno, Adamawa and Yobe). Women and children represent 85 per cent of those in need.

Nigeria, with a population of 182.2 million people, tops the list of the three countries in Africa with the highest population of IDPs.
